  48. Hewlett-Packard Intellifont-for-Windows 3.0 lets you create on-the-fly screen 
  49. fonts and more. Hewlett-Packard Intellifont-for-Windows 3.0 gives most 
  50. Microsoft Windows applications the same font scaling technology as the HP 
  51. LaserJet III printer family. Without leaving your application, you get type 
  52. that looks as good on-screen as it does when it comes off your printer without
  53. using valuable disk space to store bitmapped screen fonts.

  55. Hewlett-Packard Intellifont-for-Windows 3.0 gives you:
  56.   * High-quality screen fonts - no more jagged edges on displays. 
  57.   * On-the-fly screen fonts and type scaling - instant screen fonts in the

  62. Hewlett-Packard Intellifont-for-Windows 3.0 includes eight scalable screen 
  63. typefaces in popular CG Times and Univers, and it opens the door to installing 
  64. a variety of other type products from the HP MasterType Library. You can 
  65. purchase and install into Windows 3.0 any of HP's MasterType Library products 
  66. which includes scalable typeface collections on cartridge or disk and more 
  67. than twenty individual scalable typefaces.  Please feel free to copy the 
  68. Hewlett-Packard Intellifont-for-Windows 3.0 disks subject to the above 
  69. restrictions.

  80. Software:         MS-DOS (or PC-DOS) Version 3.1 or later and Microsoft 
  81.                   Windows 3.0 running in standard or enhanced mode - real mode
  82.                   is not supported 
  83. Memory:           Minimum of 1 megabyte of extended RAM, 2 megabytes 
  84.                   recommended 
  85. Free Disk Space:  Minimum of 2 megabytes

  89. INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

  93. To install Hewlett-Packard Intellifont-for-Windows 3.0:
  94.  
  95. 1.  Make sure Windows 3.0 is installed and runs in Standard or Enhanced mode.
  96.     Check which mode Windows 3.0 is running by choosing Help from the Program 
  97.     Manager Window and then choose About. 
  98. 2.  Select the HP LaserJet III, IIID, IIISi or IIIP printer driver through the
  99.     Windows 3.0 Control Panel. 
  100. 3.  Exit Windows 3.0 completely and return to a DOS prompt (do not use the DOS
  101.     icon). 
  102. 4.  Insert Disk 1 of Hewlett-Packard Intellifont-for-Windows 3.0 Version 1.1 
  103.     in your floppy drive. 
  104. 5.  From the DOS prompt of your floppy disk drive, type "IFWSETUP" and press
  105.     [ENTER].
  106.        Example: A: [ENTER]
  107.                 IFWSETUP [ENTER]
  108. 6.  Follow the instructions that appear on the screens to complete 
  109.     installation.
  110.     Hint:  For selecting the directory for your Typeface Files and 
  111.            Intellifont Summary Files:
  112.              * Input the directory where you have previously installed scalable
  113.                typefaces.  The installation program recognizes scalable 
  114.                typefaces.
  115.              * Scalable typefaces could have been installed through Type 
  116.                Director or AutoFont.  Typefaces installed through Type 
  117.                Director, scalable soft fonts installed through AutoFont, and 
  118.                screen fonts installed through AutoFont are placed in the 
  119.                \td\type directory of the destination drive.
  120.              * If you specify a directory, (i.e. \td\type) where typefaces have
  121.                already been installed, as the directory for placing your 
  122.                Intellifont support files, the Hewlett-Packard 
  123.                Intellifont-for-Windows 3.0 installation program will recognize
  124.                the typefaces and will install them for use as scalable screen 
  125.                fonts.

  127. An instruction guide called IFWGUIDE.WRI in Microsoft Write format will be 
  128. placed in your Windows 3.0 directory for viewing and printing.
  129.  
  130. When running Windows 3.0, look for the Intellifont Icon in the Accessories 
  131. Group to verify installation.  If you have additional fonts to install, double
  132. click on the Intellifont icon and click on the Fonts button to open the HP Font
  133. Installer window.

  135. In the Hewlett-Packard Font Installer notice the typefaces listed in the left
  136. hand box.  If the typeface has a small dot in front of it, it has been
  137. installed for scalable screen fonts.  To create printer fonts to match your
  138. scalable screen fonts, see the section "FEATURES OF HEWLETT-PACKARD 
  139. INTELLIFONT-FOR-WINDOWS 3.0 - New Hewlett-Packard Font Installer with AutoFont

  156. you need to run Windows 3.0 and setup the HP LaserJet III printer driver before
  157. installing Hewlett-Packard Intellifont-for-Windows 3.0.  The following 
  158. procedure installs the HP LaserJet III printer driver and updates the win.ini
  159. file with information needed by the driver and by the Hewlett-Packard 
  160. Intellifont-for-Windows 3.0 installation program.
  161.  
  162. 1.  Choose Control Panel from the Main Group in Program Manager. The Control
  163.     Panel window appears. 
  164. 2.  Choose the Printers icon from the Control Panel window. The Printers dialog
  165.     box appears.  If you have already installed the HP LaserJet III printer 
  166.     driver, highlight the corresponding line from the Installed Printers dialog
  167.     box and continue at #8.
  168. 3.  Choose the Add Printer button. 
  169. 4.  From the List of Printers dialog box, select the HP LaserJet III printer.
  170. 5.  Choose install. 
  171. 6.  Insert the Windows 3.0 Setup Disk 5 and press [Enter]. 
  172. 7.  Highlight the "HP LaserJet III on None, Inactive" line in the Installed
  173.     Printers dialog box. 
  174. 8.  Choose Configure. 
  175. 9.  Highlight the correct printer port from the Ports list box. 
  176. 10. Choose Setup. 
  177. 11. Make any necessary changes in the Printer Setup screen to reflect your
  178.     printer's configuration. 
  179. 12. Choose OK twice. 
  180. 13. Choose Active. 
  181. 14. Choose OK. 
  182. 15. Continue from #3 of the Installation Instructions.

  190. * Screen Font Cache - From the Intellifont icon the user is capable of setting
  191.   a screen font cache to speed up font generation to the screen.  The size of
  192.   the cache ranges from 64 Kbytes to 256 Kbytes.  Increasing the size of the
  193.   cache will increase the speed of Hewlett-Packard Intellifont-for-Windows 3.0,
  194.   but will decrease the amount of memory available to the application.  For
  195.   documents with small number of fonts, the default cache size should be 
  196.   adequate.  For documents with larger number of fonts (10+), the
  197.   cache should be increased to provide better display speed.
  198. * Intellifont Integration - Hewlett-Packard Intellifont-for-Windows 3.0
  199.   includes the Intellifont font scaling technology resident in the
  200.   Hewlett-Packard LaserJet III printer family.  Intellifont scales screen 
  201.   fonts to all point sizes supported by Windows 3.0.  Screen fonts are created
  202.   "on-the-fly" -- which means enhanced performance and no need to use valuable
  203.   disk space for bitmapped screen fonts.
  204. * Scalable Screen Font Files - CG Times and Univers screen fonts are included
  205.   to match the Hewlett-Packard LaserJet III, IIID and IIIP printers' internal
  206.   scalable typefaces.
  207. * New Hewlett-Packard Font Installer - Scalable typefaces and bitmapped fonts
  208.   can now be installed for use in both Windows 3.0 and your Hewlett-Packard
  209.   LaserJet III family printer.  The Hewlett-Packard font installer installs
  210.   typefaces and fonts from the following file types:
  211.     .FF -> AGFA Compugraphic FAIS file format.  These files are usually on
  212.            diskette and are shipped with all Hewlett-Packard scalable font
  213.            products.  The .FF file provides support for scalable printer
  214.            fonts and scalable screen fonts.
  215.    .TYP -> AGFA Compugraphic library file format.  These files are placed in
  216.            the \TD\TYPE directory when you install a typeface through Type
  217.            Director, when you install a scalable soft font through HP's
  218.            AutoFont, and when you install a scalable cartridge with screen
  219.            fonts through HP's AutoFont.  The .TYP file provides support for
  220.            scalable printer fonts and scalable screen fonts.
  221.    .PCM -> Printer Cartridge Metrics file.  This file is created by the
  222.            cartridge vendor.  PCM files are used for scalable and bitmapped
  223.            cartridges that are not supported by the Hewlett-Packard LaserJet
  224.            III printer driver. The PCM file only provides support for printer
  225.            fonts.  For scalable cartridges the scalable screen fonts must be
  226.            installed from a .FF file or a .TYP file.
  227.    GLUE.TXT -> This file contains information for all products you install with
  228.                AutoFont Support.  Soft fonts and cartridges, bitmapped or
  229.                scalable can be installed from the "glue.txt" file.  When
  230.                prompted by the HP Font Installer for the drive\directory from
  231.                where you want to add fonts, input the drive\directory where
  232.                your "glue.txt" file is located (default directory for HP's
  233.                AutoFont program and for Type Director is C:\AUTOFONT).  The HP
  234.                Font Installer reads the "glue.txt" file and displays a list of
  235.                the typefaces that have been installed with AutoFont support.
  236.                When you add typeface(s), the HP Font Installer creates a .PFM
  237.                file for soft fonts and a .PCM file for cartridge fonts from the
  238.                AutoFont .TFM files.  The HP Font Installer installs the .PFM and
  239.                .PCM files into Windows 3.0 for access by the printer driver.
  240.                The GLUE.TXT file only provides support for printer fonts.  For
  241.                scalable soft fonts and cartridges the scalable screen fonts
  242.                must be installed from a .FF file or a .TYP file.
  243.    .sfp -> Bitmapped soft font in portrait orientation.  Intellifont screen
  244.            fonts are only available for bitmapped fonts that were created from
  245.            an AGFA Compugraphic library file (.TYP).  Windows 3.0 will attempt
  246.            to display a rough representation of other bitmapped fonts.
  247.    .sfl -> Bitmapped soft font in landscape orientation.  Intellifont screen
  248.            fonts are only available for bitmapped fonts that were created from
  249.            an AGFA Compugraphic library file (.TYP).  Windows 3.0 will attempt
  250.            to display a rough representation of other bitmapped fonts.

  252. NOTE:  AutoFont Support - AutoFont support incorporated into the 
  253.        Hewlett-Packard font installer allows the installation of scalable
  254.        typeface cartridges, scalable soft fonts, bitmapped cartridge fonts and
  255.        bitmapped soft fonts into Windows 3.0 without first acquiring a Windows
  256.        3.0 metric file.  AutoFont support works by creating the Windows 3.0
  257.        metrics files from the .TFM files installed through AutoFont.

  266. 30.3.86 of the HPPCL5A printer driver for the Hewlett-Packard LaserJet III

  271.   * Roman 8 Character Mapping - Version 30.3.86 of the PCL5 printer driver maps
  272.     Roman 8 bitmap fonts to Windows ANSII.  This allows the screen and printer

  274.     applies if the font was not installed using AutoFont.
